The living archive of Antonio Colombo: art, cycling and design
In collaboration with Antonio Colombo
We will tell a journey that began in 1919 with Angelo Luigi Colombo and continues to unfold today through the vision of his son, Antonio Colombo. His story weaves together distinct eras and bold ideas, more than just a reflection of social evolution or a hallmark of Italian entrepreneurship, it stands as a vivid example of a true collector’s spirit.
From a humble steel tube emerged design icons: chairs, armchairs, umbrella stands, and then bicycles. Not just any bicycles, but those ridden by champions, featured on front pages, and celebrated in cycling history. This creative momentum naturally led to a dialogue with art. It was art, in fact, that broke the mold, moving beyond traditional notions of business and opening the door to a new dimension: Colombo’s Gallery and Colombo’s Archive (with punctuation and “s” very much intentional).
Columbus’ rationalist furniture has become part of our collective memory, much like the everyday objects displayed in this exhibition. These are not only witnesses to an era, but also powerful expressions of Italian excellence, where enterprise gave way to a deep, enduring passion for creativity.
This is the unexpected power of The Living Archive of Antonio Colombo: Art, Cycling, and Design, an exhibition that reintroduces familiar forms through an unfamiliar lens, revealing untold stories and inviting viewers to experience them with fresh eyes and renewed curiosity.
